Used primarily in high pressure applications, R Type Ring Joint Gaskets form a seal between RTJ flanges by deforming under pressure. Because of this, the gasket used must be made from material softer than the corresponding mating flanges. R Type Oval and Octagonal Ring Joint Gaskets are used in pressures up to 10,000 PSI.
Owing to their high integrity, high temperature seal, R Type Ring Joint Gaskets see wide use in the petrochemical, oil and gas industries. RTJ Gaskets have a smooth mating surface to provide a reliable metal-to-metal seal.
Octagonal and Oval R Type Gaskets are manufactured to suit different applications and accommodate different flange types. Octagonal Type RTJ Gaskets have a higher sealing coefficient than Oval Type RTJs and are of higher quality. Oval Type Gaskets are the only variation suitable for a bottom radius groove.
The bolt-up of different-sized flanges (of equal pitch diameter) is possible using combination rings or transition rings.
