LNG
LNG or Liquid Natural Gas, is a natural gas that has been cooled down to below minus 162 degrees Celsius, the temperature at which gas turns into liquid.
In this liquid form, natural gas occupies 600 times less space than gaseous forms, found in pipelines.
LNG is used to transport natural gas globally using marine vessels, trains and trucks, instead of pipelines – it is safer too, as much less combustible.
Natural gas is a by-product of oil drilling and is often burnt off during the process, however, LNG technology has allowed natural gas to be captured, cooled and exported in the form of liquid natural gas.
